Browsing samba/streaming video extremely slow!

I have been on 10.7 for a month now. I have my complaints, but what trumps all is how slow browsing samba shares and streaming avi files is. Anyone else have and or improved this problem?

Apple rewrote the SMB stack in Lion, mainly because they didn't want to use the GPLv3 version of Samba. It might take them a few updates to iron out the bugs and so forth of their new implementation, which I think is called SMBX.
