In theory, yes. Downloading files means constant use of the hard drive and since the hard drive is limited to a certain number of spins, using it more will shorten its expected lifetime. Of course, this is in theory. My hard drives are constantly spinning (I don't use filesharing apps, but that's not the point) however I usually like to let them rest overnight on most nights. I have never had a failed hard drive on one of my machines.

If you're using a laptop, make sure it's on a flat surface and is well ventilated when you're downloading files for a long time. Only download legal files. :)
