I've had this issue for a long time and it still annoys me. I live alone and I am the only user of am Apple TV 4K in this house. I tell it to buy a season of a TV show or movie, and it asks me for my password every single time. It's not very ergonomic using the remote to enter the long password. What's odd is that it tries to give me an option to make it more convenient but it never sticks for some reason.

It gives me a choice: do you want to enter password for future purchases from this device, with a 'always' and 'never require'. I always click 'never require' to hopefully save the frustration of having to enter it. every. single. time. But it NEVER sticks! Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong here?

That would drive me a bit bonkers too. Have you tried resetting your Apple TV back to factory settings and then updating it to the current version to see if that might resolve it?

No, but I did go to settings-->Accounts and users-->Require password for purchases-->Never. It was still set for 'require every 15 minutes'. Apparently the popup that goes:

"Do you want to require passwords for future purchases from this device [Always] [Require in 15 minutes] [Never]"

doesn't do anything.

You won’t like the answer, but I think you need to restore the tv. If you have the Home Screen setting on all of your apps and the layout will be the same as it restores.

I think I fixed it by going to the settings and setting it there. I will know soon enough when I purchase something. BTW the ATV froze dead solid today. Came home the screen saver was frozen, wouldn't respond to the remote. Been on for months straight, I suppose it ran out of RAM? Never has frozen before...

If you have an iphone the remote app usually allows you to enter usernames/passwords. If you have that info in something like 1password it is just simply copying/pasting.

It really sounds like you need to reset it for multiple reasons.
