Buggy?

I got my ibook last summer, it is my first mac so I still consider myself relatively new to the Mac world, but lately it seems to be a bit buggy, I get the spinning color wheel to come up far more often than it used to, things dont close properly and freeze for awhile... overall nothing major but just things i've noticed that started happening recently.

is there some sort of system check I can do to make sure everything is as it is supposed to be? or some sort of maintenance that might help??
