i already have an 80 Gig ata drive waiting and a keyboard and mouse. i'll find some pc100 around.
i will hopefully use this to record/mix music with my band. maybe also as a decent multimedia pc?

is this a good setup? can it get better/cheaper? right now this is going like, ~$250
thanks for your advice.

Don't do it. Any modern daw is going to CRAWL on that machine. Just save your money and pick up refurb mini. Hell, you'd be better off getting a FireWire audio interface and using the emac in your sig (although I wouldn't recommend it).

i was also going to get a usb 2.0 pci card to use with my band's D888 recorder.
this has one 66 mhz pci and three 33mhz pci's. will the later work with the usb card and modern graphics cards? also i will prolly hook this up with my 47" westinghouse. (its a bad tv so maybe it will make a better monitor? the blacks and darks are wretched, just metallic squares, ugh!!!)

i will prolly have a gig of ram before i do hard work on it. This set up can suck that bad though... can it?

Go with a slower G4 powermac you can get those for real cheap and the upgrading options are endless!

Plus the grey/blue color tower is much nicer looking.

actually, that guy in the story above used a g4 that was similar to the ebay one and put that 1ghz g3 in it as well.
food for thought...
