I had an idea to use all my movie files that I ripped from my DVD collection and put them on a website so that when I am at work or anywhere I can click on a thumbnail and begin streaming that video. I guess it would be similar to netflix instant streaming. Has anyone tried this? I do not want to make this a public thing, just a site that I can log into and stream some videos. Is there anything I need to consider? Any input is appreciated. Thanks

There are many apps that let you do it.

You also need enough uplink bandwidth at home.

What about a thumb drive?

I thought of a thumb drive but I figured a nice website would be cooler :)

My hosting account is unlimited storage so I could just upload the videos to that.

What apps are you referring to?

If you read the fine print, you may be surprised what "unlimited" really means!

I use Phanfare for my videos, and can set any albums to private if I want to. Works pretty good!

Bandwidth would be your biggest issue. Unless you're paying good money for a private server, it'll take forever for a movie to be streamed, especially in higher quality formats.
