I want to follow this guide (http://www.balcells.com/products/how-to-build-an-airplay-speaker-for-under-$100.html) and build my own speaker setup for my Apple TV, Macbook, iOS devices to use. Currently I'm using a Motorola SB6580 cable modem/wireless router. If I buy the Airport Express MB321LL/A will I be able to use it to repeat my wireless network at a different frequency? Currently I'm using 2.4 ghz because that's all my printer will work with. I'd like to be able to use the motorola router for 5 ghz and the airport express at 2.4 ghz but didn't know if that was possible.

If the Express is a simultaneous dual-band model, then yes. You can even give 2.4 and 5GHz wlans different names to make connection determinate.
