So i'm planning a TV stand that i would like to build, and i want to incorporate a glass top into it, but i have no idea how much weight a piece (48x18) of glass can support. I was thinking of getting 1/2 inch thickness in a dark black tint, but need to know if it can support a 37inch lcd tv (around 75lbs max). If anyone has worked with glass and knows how much it can hold, and how expensive it is, it would be great help.

Thanks

Well...not sure how much this will help...but this IKEA TV stand handles 165lbs. mx load. They use tempered/safety glass. So I'm guessing type of glass is one key factor, the other being that the way your stand is designed doesn't put too much load on any one portion of the glass.
