Just curious if anybody knows what kinda mic the built-in mic on a macbook is?

Is there a name for the type of mic it is? Like condenser, moving coil, ribbon, lavalier, shotgun(I know it's probably not a condenser, moving coil, ribbon, or shotgun). How does it pick up sound, are there diaphragms in there?

It is a "Electret Condenser Microphone"

Read about them here

Here are the specs for a typical cell phone mic (click on the first one on the page)

Probably the same one as used in the iPhone, a standard microphone that delivers "normal" audio quality.

As far as recording any instruments with it, BAD BAD BAD mic.. But anyone who has asked or tried that for themselves knows that already.
