Bulge Above Latch

As others have seem to have had before. My Penryn MacBook Pro is now starting to bulge above the latch. I see through a search others have had this issue. Some have said AppleCare covers it, others not? If you have had this issue, was your problem fixed?
Also, if it can be, are bottom case repairs done in store or do they have to be shipped out?
