As I was packing up my computer this morning, I noticed something horrible...

...my MBP's battery was bulging.

I thought that was a 2006-2007 thing, but bulging batteries in 2009?

Now, will Apple replace this battery for me?

DO NOT USE THAT BATTERY AGAIN!

Apple will replace it.

As far as it being an issue with the '06-'07 batteries only ... No. It can happen to any battery, but it was widespread then due to a common defect.

I'm waiting for the "bulging battery Unibody-style" thread ;)
If it happens on a 17" it's game-over...

looks within spec to me....

for an exploding battery.

i would keep that in a ziploc bag incase of leaking

I think this wont be an issue with the new unibody 17" MBP's because Apple tested each one 3 times before they left the factory, thats why most come with 3 cycles already.

I had that happen to my 2006 MBP battery last year. It was on the floor and hissed and popped and shut off. I flipped it over and the battery was bulging. I ran down to the Apple store because I use it for work and had to buy one. They would not/did not cover it (or at least the person I talked to did not)

{Puts on Apple fanboy mask}
That was your fault. And any 17" MBPs that blow up will be the fault of those users. Apple does not make bad batteries or other defective products or imperfect design decisions, and when they decline to service your machine, it's because you are the cause of whatever the problem is. Believe in Steve.

This happened to me a few months after I bought my MacBook Pro (about two years ago). I got a replacement, and I just noticed the replacement battery has now bulged so far it's SPLIT its casing!

I, too, thought the exploding batteries were just a bad batch, but apparently not!

My first unibody had 3 cycles, my replacement had zero cycles.

My 3 year old MBP 17 just did this too (after a battery replacement a couple years ago). Kwong, did Apple replace yours?

My 2006 MB battery started bulging last week, it's barely noticeable visually, but you can feel it and it doesn't sit level.

I called AppleCare today and they are shipping me a replacement and a return box for this one.

Bulging Battery

Apple just replaced my three year old MBP battery today after it was bulging. (The battery was already replaced once when a few months old.) They didn't give me a hard time; I was impressed since my computer is long out of warranty.

Yeah, but what about the case? Hasn't it already been bent?
