OK, so this isn’t an advocacy thread - but in Word, in Line Spacing options, you can select “don’t add space between paragraphs of the same style”. This is most often used to give bulleted lists tighter line spacing whilst maintaining neat paragraph separation for surrounding text, because surround paragraphs have a different style (e.g. the bullets have the List Paragraph style, whilst preceding and following paragraphs often have the Normal style).

I would like to replicate this specific functionality in Pages - tightly spaced bullets, but with agreeable before/after spacing with respect to the list and surrounding paragraphs. I cannot see anything in the Inspector for this. Have I overlooked something?

You can do the same thing in Pages, but it's not as simple as Word or a layout app like Adobe InDesign.

In Pages, you must create a Paragraph Style and a List Style – which includes a Bullet type (in the case of the screenshot below, min is "Bullet Big." Adjust the spacing as you go and don't forget to save the Styles after you adjust the spacing, otherwise it won't work.

In these screenshots (sorry for the large size, but I wanted to keep the Format panel on the right readable), I've exaggerated the space between regular paragraphs just to show you the obvious spacing difference from the list style.

The more I think about it, this is the most ridiculous thing to have to do to simply adjust the Space After on the last bullet list item like you can in Word or InDesign. It's probably not worth the hassle of setting up the styles for one or two bullet lists in a document, but if you have a really long document with lots of bullet/number lists, it's essential.

Thank you so much, @MacGizmo! I’d never have figured that out by myself.

I concur that it’s quite an omission of functionality, especially when other products provide it.
