My first mac crash. I was just updating itunes to the newest version. At the end it told me it was unsuccessful. I made the big mistake of shuttong down my macbook pro. It would not start. It would try, get stuck, and shut off. Disc utilities will not fix it. Tried to reinstall via the oxX disc, but it would not find the drive. With any luck I might be able to copy contents via the disc utility. I do have a time machine backup, but not as current as I would like.

EDIT:
Wow, 8 hours later and I was able to resolve this myself. I tried to open via the install disc and a few other options, none of which worked. Repair disc did not work either. I guess the corrupted iTunes install was beyond it.

I was finally able to open the desktop. At this stage i could at least copy important files. I then downloaded the iTunes install package rather than try the update approach. This worked, and I was able to do a working install of iTunes.

At this stage I restarted in Restore mode and repaired permissions. There were a lot for iTunes!

With iTunes working, the Repair function worked! So back in business. (and, at least for a while, i will be backing up more often like I should)
