Anyone know of a site with instructions to take off a rear bumper?

The car is a 2002 Honda CRV.

I tried googles and the internets but nothing good yet. Any help would be appreciated.

You need a service manual. Have you checked your local library? They often have them for the more popular models. There are online service manuals available but they usually cost just as much as the book.

I haven't taken a bumper off of a CRV before but I have on some other cars. Have you crawled underneath and taken a look at how it's attatched. They are usually pretty simple to remove.

EDIT: I did a few searches and it looks like it's probably not going to be possible to get the info you want online. Honda for some reason is not allowing the major service manual publishers to publish online versions of their manuals.

One last suggestion... have you looked at any CRV forums? A few months ago I needed to rewire part of my instrument cluster and didn't feel like ordering and waiting for a service manual. I visited a few forums and found detailed instructions with pictures for what I needed to do.

thank you so much for your input and for your search.

I have checked a few Honda forums. There are no rear bumper removal instructions, only front removal instructions.

I may risk it anyway because if I screw it up I am in no worse shape then I am now.

Whats the difference? This is the outside of the Rear bumper that I want to "pop" the dent out of.

It's possible it would be in a Haynes manual for your car but I'd assume you've already tried that and need the actual Honda service manual which isn't cheap.

  • Have someone to help you when you're removing and installing the rear bumper
  • Be careful not to scratch the rear bumper or body of the car
  • IMO always wear gloves and protective glasses. :D
  • Put protective tape around the hinge side of edge thingy (it's on the picture) to prevent damage to the rear bumper.. Careful not to put the kinda of tape that might damage the paint.
  • Before you remove the rear bumper, make sure you remove the bolt that holds the body side end of the tailget to the support strut. After you remove the bolt carefuly open/close the tailgate to allow maximum clearance between the rear bumper and the tailgates lower trim and find something to hold the tailgate in position
  • Remove the rear bumper as show in the picture.
  • Install the bumper in reverse (obviously ;p) order of removal and be sure to note the following:
    • Dude! Make sure that the bumper engages/attaches to the hooks on the side spacers and the upper brackets on both sides securely
    • If you break any clips, replace them!
    • Push the clips firmly and securely into place.

ALSO, download this picture ASAP please, i'm going to delete it soon. :) As soon as I see your responce i'm going to delete it.

i'm a little late to this party but i have the same issue. anyone mind passing along that file?
