Two US police officers have sued Burger King Corp., alleging personal injury, negligence, battery and violation of fair practices after they were served hamburgers that had been sprinkled with marijuana.

"It gives a whole new meaning to the word Whopper," said the officers' attorney Sam Bregman. "The idea that these hoodlums would put marijuana into a hamburger and therefore attempt to impair law enforcement officers trying to do their jobs is outrageous."

Good old teenagers and their shenanigans.

I'm sure they sued BK Corp because they truly thought BK was negligent, not simply because they figured they'd get a lot of money out of them vs. none out of the punks that did it....

This is an article in a BRIT paper reporting on this event in the USA, which has been put in the MIDDLE EAST section of the newspaper?

Surely us brits are meant to have a better grasp of geography than that?

Or maybe they've been smoking a bit too much at the editing desks?

(Note: The Independent, generally a fine lefty-ish paper, is one of the strongest advocates in the UK of pot legalisation)

Suing the kids won't pay the pain and suffering of eating a pot burger, duuude.

Thats a LOT of pain and suffering.

And thats just for the burger itself!

Well, if they didn't find it immediately -- they "could have" ended up suspended during a routine drug screening.

Like the dude that got suspended for the wife's spike meatballs.

Plus, what else were they putting into the burgers all the time they went there.

I guess that BK store should be sued for not doing more to stop that type of crap, especially if that type of behavior happened before and was a decent rumor through the store.

Edit: Hopefully the aldulterated food leads to a felony conviction... as it should whether it is an officer or not.

I think that's going a bit far.

But it's hard for the manager to know if employees are putting marijuana into burgers. It's not exactly an easy thing to discover. I don't think BK was being negligent. They probably didn't know.

You did see my sig, right? ;)
Sadly they have not, they cost $5.99 a piece. :p ;) :D
And since each one makes you even hungrier, it's quite the insidious product.

What a stupid things those teens did. Putting pot in a burger that you are going to give to a cop. Plus the fact that the cops might be called upon dangerous work, and the dope can hinder them as the article stated.

The restaurant manager on duty became suspicious when, after approximately twenty minutes, the two officers returned and ordered the entire left side of the menu, laughing uncontrollably while doing so.

"God forbid these officers didn't realize their burgers were laced with pot and then were called to a violent situation where they'd have to stop along the way for munchies," Bregman said.

;)

I'm not a lawyer, but I don't think it unreasonable for BK to get sued. The idiots were their employees, working in a legitimate franchise location, and presumably the burgers had the BK logo wrapper all over them. Are we not to assume that BK will stand behind their product, produced by their employees, however incompetent?

Now, suing McD's because your hot coffee was hot, or suing BK because you're fat and they actually didn't discriminate and refuse to serve you -- that's too many lawyers going after the deep pockets.

Good thing the idiots assumed correctly about whom the burgers were for. What if they had been purchased for some asthmatic children? Might not have been as "funny" in that case...

You're right on the money and have taken the words right out of my mouth.

i would think the pot would only be bad for asthmatic children if they smoked it. in this case they would just ingest it so....lol. you are right on about everything else tho, it is ridiculous how you can sue for so many things

I can't believe the cops are arresting them on aggravated battery and went to a hospital after they ingested them. What do they think it is, poison? The worst that could happen to them is they got high, whoopdy doo. IMO they completely over reacted. Im not saying what the kids did is right, and they should be punished. But the cops did take it to a whole new leve.

Are these special burgers on the dollar menu yet? I may have to start going to Burger King.

not these burgers in question, but sunday is woppers for a $1 here where i live. monday is bacon cheese burger, and wednesday is double cheese :D you can find me there on those days paying $5 for a crud load of food :p
