Hi,

I have a MacBook Pro model no A1286 which is about 3 or 4 years old. Today, whilst it was on and open I picked it up one handed, thumb on top and fingers underneath, and I felt/heard a snap or crack where my fingers were. I looked underneath and there's strange burn or scorch marks that look like a toddler has doodled with a black marker that's running out. It continued to work fine, no burning smell or anything (if I hadn't looked underneath I wouldn't have known anything was wrong) but after a few minutes I shut it down anyway to be safe. I've also taken the battery out.

Just wondering I anyone knows what's directly beneath the casing there that might snap and cause scorch marks but not affect the performance. Also, is it safe for me to turn it on?

Cheers

Could those marks have been there all along without you having noticed? Because they really look like an 'outside' thing if you ask me. As if you placed it on a desk with a piece of pencil tip or something on it.
