I have a black Macbook C2D and just recently, the cord burned near the Magsafe power brick. I've read about the problem online, but most of the messages I've seen have been from around 2008. Has anyone gotten a free replacement recently from an Apple Store? I don't have Applecare or warranty.

I've seen the new Magsafe design with the cord that goes vertical instead of horizontal. Will it block my ethernet port?

You can call Apple and they'll probably send you a replacement for free.

The L-shaped Magsafe connector will only block the ethernet port if you orient it such that it is blocked. Obviously you can just turn it the other way and it will not block the ethernet port.

Yeah I had this problem. They replaced it there and then with the new metal magsafe, even though it was about 2 years out of warranty ;). If it looks burnt from the outside im sure they will replace it.

Hmm, I went to an Apple Store and they wouldn't replace it for free. It was $60. Not pleased...
