I've got a project due tomorrow and am trying to burn a movie onto a DVD. The following happens whenever I click the burn button:

When I try to burn onto a DVD-R, IDVD says it's waiting for the device to be ready for a minute or so then ejects the disk and tells me there isn't one in the drive anymore and that I should insert a new one.

When I try to burn onto DVD+R, it just stays at "waiting for the device to be ready" and does absolutely nothing. I waited at this point for about half an hour and got nothing.

Should I have my imovie project compressed into a share as CD, or should I just use the actual imovie project as my dropzone? Does this affect my burning problem?

Last night I compressed the project into best quality and it turned out too big for my DVD-R. (Movie was 2.65GB and needed double that but only had 4.7GB on DVD-R). Nevertheless, I burned two "successfully." They just wouldn't play! Can anyone relate to this? Any advice? Thanks in advance.

We need more information than what you've thus-far provided.

  1. Model of Mac
  2. Model of Optical Drive
  3. Version of Mac OS X
  4. Version of iMovie and iDVD
  5. If you were to instead make up a data CD and try to burn one, right now, does it work?

Also, take a look at the data side of each of your "successful" DVDs. Are they consistent in appearance with each other? Are they consistent in appearance with what you would normally expect when looking at the data side of an optical disc? Do they look "strange" or "wierd" or "special" in any way?

I'll answer these as best I can. I don't really know a lot about computers.

Doing this on a Mac G5. Version 10.4.9. Is optical drive the types of DVDs my computer can supposedly write on? It says -R and -RW. IDVD 6.0.3. Same for Imovie.

If I try and burn a CD I get "error code 0x8002006D" and the CD doesn't burn.

Edit:
DoFoT9: I've tried about six different -R's. I only seem to have one +R on hand right now and it's not really getting anywhere.

Bump. I am honestly stuck here. I tried a different brand and it started going through the burning process. I went away for a while and it had "encountered errors." Won't play on my T.V.
