burning apps w/ no encoding time

my buddy was telling me about this program he has for pc where it just burns movies directly from avi or MPEG without having to wait for encoding. Does this kind of app exist for macs too?

You could just burn the file directly to the disc.

You can burn anything with most burning apps without encoding if you just want to burn the files. But if you want it to be a standard DVD, there's no magic way to not have to encode the files. (except for certain DVD players that can play back certain non-standard file types).

Then either the DVD player is MPEG compatible and the app was just burning files, or the encoding was already done prior to the burning, or your buddy is having one over on you.

Like I said, there's no magic that his windows app has that's not available on the Mac. It must be one of the options CanadaRam laid out.
