burning converted MID to MP3 onto CD in Itunes

I have downloaded a MIDI file and converted it in Itunes to a MP3. But when I try to burn it to a CD, it doesn't recognize it. I assume that when I hit "convert to MP3" in Itunes that it did do that. However, the file doesn't seem any different once the conversion is finished. I have downloaded MP3 files before(not originally MID files) and have been able to burn them. Can I use Itunes for this or do I have to buy a separate software to do this?
