Burning MiniDV tapes straight to DVD?

Hi

I have a couple of 1hr DV tapes that I want to burn straight onto DVD.

Is there anyway I can just play it straight through the computer and it just burn on the fly rather than loading it in, encoding it and then burning it?

I have iLife 08 but can get other programs.

No, you will need to encode to mpeg2 if you want to watch it as a Video DVD.
