I have toast 9 and i burned a movie (.avi file) to dvd but it wasn't really at good quality even though the movie was at perfect dvd quality on my laptop. My question is, is this normal?

Since AVI uses compression, some quality will be lost. Much depends on how good the "original" is. I've seen some AVI movies where the quality was good and on the other hand some where it was awful.

Regards.
