Burning on an erased DVD-RW disk

Hi,

Can't figure this out....why can't I burn on to an erased DVD-RW disk? When I'm prompted to insert blank disk from the burn folder, I'm just getting the message 'You have inserted a blank disk. Choose an action from the pop up menu'.

Most annoying when I'm regularly having to back up my college work :confused:
