Hi, I'm using my iMac to burn some TV programs onto a DVD which I then want to be able to watch on my DVD player. I'm using an iMac. What format do I need the files in to be able to view on my DVD player? Is it .mov ?

Thanks advance!:D

If you have them in some way that's not DRM protected, then typically, it doesn't really matter, since whatever software you use to burn the DVD will have to convert them to the DVD native format (.vob files in a TS_Video folder).

For most formats, at least three major options that will let you burn them onto a DVD are iDVD (included on your Mac), Burn (a free program), and Toast (commercial). Each program will automatically convert the video as necessary, although they may support slightly different formats. If you don't own Toast and want to keep it simple, Burn might be the best option.
