I know... 2017 MBP's can possibly have keyboard issues. But MB and MBP are now covered 4 years by Apple.

I went in local BestBuy and tried it out. Keyboard felt a lot better than expected. Coming from 2013 MBA whose keyboard I love but screen... meh.

Looking at MPXV2LL/A (Touch Bar, 256GB, 3.1 i5) which retails for $1799.99 at BB. After tax is $1949.

Flash Newegg has a sale going this weekend. After gift card and cash back net price is $1379.

No one knows when 2018 MBP is going to arrive. But it will be a while before it goes on sale. From a financial perspective it seems the 2017 MBP might be the smarter move.

Thoughts?

If you need it, get it. If you don't then wait. If you don't want to spend the original price on a macbook regardless (as in you don't want to spend 2000 on a laptop even if it is the 2018 model) then you might want to take the deal.

I could wait but need to hook up to an external display and the MBP has more options.

These usually hold their value over time. I guess if the 2018/2019 comes out and is just mind blowing you would at least be able to get most of your money back by selling used 2017.

I think the better deal is $1379. $1499 - $100 gift card - EBates cash back. But yes that is a good deal.

Think it’s best to jump on the deal?

is this 13 or 15 inch, if u getting 13 u might as well wait for the new model since the new one most likely have 4 cores vs 2

This is the 13" model. I prefer 13" for the portability. I am an average web consumer, spreadsheets, etc. Not worried about 4 cores.

I'm not as familiar with 13" prices, but if it's that much less than the going rate (not necessarily the MSRP) then I'd go for it. I was in the market for a 15" MBP and wanted a 512GB SSD and 3 years of AppleCare+; total at Apple was $3200 before tax IIRC. I'm really waiting for the 2018 model if there is one, but I was able to find a new 2017 15" 2.9GHz model on Ebay with both of the above for $2200. I figure for that kind of savings I can sell it in a year and not lose money. If this deal is the same, then go for it.

If you are looking for a new MacBook Pro, that is a heck of a deal. I paid that much for a refurbished 13" MacBook Pro TB, with the 3.1 ghz processor. Even when the 2018 comes out, it'll be a while before you see a fairly decked out model for that price. And for what you are saying you'll be using it for, the 2017 model is more than enough.
