I was planning to but a new mac before the back to school cut off date of 8th sep. When Leopard arrived, people that bought a mac with tiger could get a free upgrade to leopard (i think).

What is the situation when buying a new mac so close to a new OS (well, half a upgrade).

If i buy within the next 2 weeks, do you think i could get snow leopard for free ?

excellent, sure i can find £8 for that!

WHen is snow leopard released/sent with new mac purchases?

The latest i can wait to purchase is sep 8th - isnt there a keynote on sep 9th - bit cheeky, but i guess the free ipod is worth it all in all

Same boat as me pretty much... iMac now with free ipod or wait till October where I might get something new but not free ipod. Not that I want one but selling it would help lower the overall cost like :)

But yeah you'd qualify for the £8 update :)

think ill go for a 2006 model for £700 and sell my powerbook - so £4/500 for a new mac, well, refurbed of ebay.

But i might just bite the bullet and splash out... hmm shiny

Snow Leopard will be delivered to you - it won't automatically come with your Mac, and you will have to fill in a claim form.

I was quite disappointed with the cut off date for the Back To School offer because normally in the UK, Apple gives us til the end of September and as my student loan doesn't come in til then, I won't be able to get the free ipod :( but hey, I might get newer hardware :D

What powerbook have you got? Shoot me a PM, I might be interested :)

well, have just ordered a new mbp 17, with ipod touch 16gb (will sell, so extra £100 odd off eventually)

I think id rather have a new computer as going down the second hand route, you end up buying second hand every 18months or so...

rather than wait for student loans, i did the following:

quidco.com - received 4% the total exc. vat - so around £68
will sell the ipod so around an extra £100 off - so your looking at £160ish off doing it this way

Did you get quidco and the student discount? How?
