I need to purchase an iPhone 5 and use it for ten months in the USA. After that period, I will live in Lithuania and other places for a few years. I need for the phone to work all over the world with different SIM cards.
It seems GSM is a more universal world standard.
The Apple version for sale is GSM.
The Straight Talk version is some sort of hybrid CDMA/GSM version that Straight Talk defaults to have you use it on the CDMA backbone. At least that's what I've gleaned from various forums.
Questions:
Does the Straight Talk version have the same GSM specs as Apple's version? Will it be as useful once I take it to other parts of the world? Is the Straight Talk LTE disabling a firmware issue that I wouldn't be able to use in the future on another carrier? Comparing specs of the two phones, it appears the Straight Talk phone does not have LTE bands while Apple's does.
Apple has two GSM phones, A1428 and A1429. The specs look the same except for LTE bands. Is there a preference? How would I buy the A1429 model in the USA?
Do I still need to cut a mini SIM to nano size if I bring an Apple iPhone 5 to Straight Talk?
What would you do?
Many thanks, James
