My friend is upgrading to the Pro Max and has offered me his 64GB X for a good price. If not, I will be buying 128GB 11 (not pro). Here are my biggest pros for each one:

X- small form factor, zoom lens as second camera, price
11-two years newer tech and brand new, better battery, more durable, should run fast longer than 2 yr old X, extra 64GB storage

OLED is a plus for the X, but not a deciding factor for me. I've been fine with my 6, so it wouldn't bother me to stay at the same ppi. I also have not had space issues on my 64GB 6, but wouldn't mind the extra storage of the 11.

Any thoughts about whether it would be a bad idea to go for the X? Battery health at 92%, in good condition.

I'd choose the 11. Better processor, larger screen and longer battery life.

OLED is not a big deal for me as I can't tell the difference on my phones.

I am getting the 11 upgrading from a 7+.
My other phone I am keeping is an XS Max and the OLED is not doing anything for me....

It depends on what you mean by "good price" and if that "good price" is worth it for the next year or so. For me good price would be approaching free to a max of say $199. Anything more than this I would possible want the newer tech.

The fact that you wrote this post means that you would probably be ok going with the X if all conditions are favorable. Based on this and with my rationale here is the scenario I would use:

<= $50.....Yes. All day. I'll drive to come get it.
$100.........Sure I'll take it and hold for a year until 12 pops.
$150.........Maybe. Let me see it but you have to drive to me.
$200.........Ehhh! Let me see what kinda deal I can get on an 11 (or Xr) even.
$250.........Probably Not
>=$300....No

This logic is probably arguable (especially in the $300-$500 range). I am looking 6mth - 2yr out. I don't agree with spending more than $300 on outdated phone tech and that is outdated by greater than 2 iterations (i.e Xr and 11 series upgrades).

I guess the short of it is that I wouldn't spend >$300 to hold for a year and I would not want an X for 2 years unless the price was REALLY "good".

Chew on that. Eat it or Spit it out. Its all IMO.

I think your old enough to make this decision. Post like this are ridiculous and waste space
Rude much? By the same token your sarcastic reply is a ridiculous and waste of space.

If you don’t have something nice to say, maybe you should keep it to yourself. Lol. Unless this was supposed to be a sarcastic joke.

I have an iPhone X and love it, but considering the likely price similarity, you’re getting more bang for the buck on the 11. That said, I love the OLED screen and would have a hard time going back to an LCD/LED panel on a phone.

No, not at all! I am just calling someone out for being rude. I don’t want newcomers to MacRumors to think that all of us are hostile and inconsiderate. :)
I get why they feel that way, but I'm not asking for someone to decide for me. I'm just living in the past on my 6, so hearing how some people who've kept more up to date feel about the trade-offs will help me make my decision. Thanks for standing up for me, though.

Not rude at all. What’s next? Is someone going to ask the best way to whipe they ass, these questions pop up yearly. It takes zero effort to research and decide for yourself from a tech standpoint and financial standpoint

I don't know about you, but I really don't feel like buying into the X series which is X, XS, 11 & 11 Pro. Having said this I have the X and I only buy on design change cycles. I like design changes and will refuse to buy anything that looks like the X series. Unless they get rid of the notch and/or gets rid of the camera bump. So to answer your question I think you should just get the X and save money. I'm sure you can find the X in the 500-600 range.

No reason to act like an ass toward the OP. He is doing some of his research by asking the question here. If the OP's question is bothersome to you or beneath your level of expertise, just ignore it and move on.

If you get X at a great price, you will be able to upgrade again to something better than 11 in a year or two and sell X with minimal loss, therefore cutting price of ownership and future upgrades. I see lot of people here upgrading seldom because it costly but they buy most expensive model when they do.

Btw, I have X and my wife's XR is too heavy and hard to use singlehandedly. In fact, I am looking forward to 2020 model that is smaller than X.

If you're on T-Mobile, you will want the 11 as the modem (beginning with the 2018 iPhones) has some additional bands... the X does not have Band 71, which is what T-Mobile is deploying in the US.

Interesting question. It really depends on how much money you're saving holding off buying the 11 and whether that money matters to you. I'd go with the 11, but if the X deal is real sweet and the money saved is worth it, then I'd go for the X.
