Buy iPhone 4 without service - use as iPod Touch

Since we know not when an iPod Touch 4 will be out...

Is there any way to purchase an iPhone 4 without service? If so, from where, and what would be the price? And could I use all iPod features, GPS, gyro, etc, or is it completely locked down until it is activated with ATT service?

It's locked down. And you would have to buy it, activate it, then pay the ETF. It's a huge waste of money. Apple always updates iPods in September, just as the do iPhones in June. So just wait.

Bummer. I could wait until September for a new iPod Touch, but will it be all-new hardware like iPhone? And I want GPS too, which His Holiness, Steve Jobs, has decided iPod Touch-ers have no need for because it is more of a 'gaming device'
