I don't expect many of you to help me here but if someone wants to, thanks. I'm on AT&T and am eligible for the iphone 4s upgrade. If I order online and get it shipped to me, do I have to actually open and activate it or can i just get the phone, then sell it off? I'm sure there has been at least one person here who has done this. It's only smart money..

I think you will have to remove the SIM as once the new phone is turned on with the new SIM I believe it will switch your account to it.

In my case, I want to keep my 4 and sell a 4S.

So is the correct procedure:

1. Remove SIM from iPhone 4 and put into 4S.
2. Activate 4S.
3. Remove SIM and wipe 4S clean.
4. Put SIM back into 4.
5. Activate iPhone 4.

Or do I use the SIM that comes with the 4S and then put that into the 4? Will the 4 need to be activated or will it work just as it did when I put the SIM back in?

You will have to open it and activate it. Afterwards, restore it and then you're ready to sell.

Your steps are correct. Afterwards, just put the sim back in the 4 and you'll be good.

I'm not sure why anyone would buy it since an unlocked 4 and 4S are available from Apple if you can't get your own upgrade.

The 4 is available unlocked for $549 so unless you plan on selling it for considerably less, I don't see how to justify your small profit margin for giving up your personal upgrade.

So I just use my current SIM from the 4 for everything? Will the 4 need to be reactivated or will it just work after I put the SIM back in it?

Just put it in and it'll work.

4s isn't available unlocked at launch. He's selling the 4s not the 4.
