i managed to brick my iPhone 5 today, less than two weeks before the expected announcement of the iPhone 6s. I really can't be without a phone for two weeks. What is Apple's exchange policy? If I buy a 6 today, will they exchange it for a 6s if I'm with the normal 30 exchange period?

I'd hold off. Even if the 6s is announce on Sept. 9, we have no way of knowing when it will be available. It might be outside the 30 day window.

If I were you, I'd spend a few bucks on a cheap backup phone to get you through the next few weeks.

Not exchange. You will have to return it before time period is up, than buy the new one, and if the new one takes a number of days or weeks depending when you placed the order, you will still need a back up.

Just buy a 20$ Nokia dumb-phone or cheap Lumia for 50$-ish. It's not wise to buy 6 when 6S is just around the corner.

Yup this or if you have someone you know who would loan you their old phone they may have laying around in their nightstand.

If you like the iPhone 6, buy it. The 6s will look identical and will only feature marginal enhancements - not a complete re-design. The next iPhone will be introduced on the 9th but will most likely not be released until the 25th which puts you out of Apple's 14 day return policy.

Get a used smartphone for <50 $, so you can at least use whatss app.

PS: How did you brick it? Hardware or software damage?
