Buy iPhone Without Activation

I heard in the US you cannot walk out of the ATT/Apple store without the phone being activated first. What about in Canada. Can I buy the phone and get it activated later?

In Canada, if the rumors are to be believed, you'd be lucky finding a shop with handsets to sell, till Rogers clears up its act...

That's right. From AT&T's website: "If you try to leave the store without activation you will be shot on site." I suggest wearing a bulletproof vest and having your get away driver waiting just outside the emergency exit...then just run for it.
