It is my daughters 12th birthday this month and she wants a new Macbook for school.
She likes the 2.4ghz,2gb,160gb white macbook currently available.
However, apple WWDC next week, should I buy now as I can get it online for £749, cheapest price I can find or are we likely to see a new super duper Macbook next week ?????
I need to order as it takes 7 days for delivery from tonight.

DO NOT ORDER TODAY. Wait until tomorrow for the iPod deal since she's a student.

As the price the OP quoted was in Pounds, the iPod deal won't be starting tomorrow (I imagine), as they start quite a bit later in the year in the UK as far as I know.

WWDC won't feature a new macbook especially since intel delayed there montevina processor so it will come out in the end of Q3 of this year. So I would go ahead and get one. I have the same model she likes and its amazing. If she uses it at home a lot its easier to use a wireless mouse so that'd be a good buy. I got a logitech v220 and its great.

Might as well wait although I really wouldn't expect a new MacBook at WWDC. That said, I would never buy a major new Apple product within a week of a major Apple event with a keynote by His Steveness.

What's for Christmas - a new 32Gig 3G iPhone?

I think for my 12th birtday, I got some Hot Wheels cars...

:D

she is putting some of her own savings money towards it, I believe in teaching kids the value of money.
I guess I will order one tomorrow then :D

I believe at age 12, that's a but too young. But who knows. I don't know how responsible she really is.

So is the MB required for her school? A private school?

Here are my thoughts - if its for their birthday, your options are either to: Buy it now and get it delivered (I've never seen an English place take a week to deliver though, everything mainland is overnight as far as I know); or give her an "IOU" saying I'm going to buy you the latest model when it becomes available.

She obviously doesn't qualify for the student promotions (that aren't even running in England) so that shouldn't be a concern.

You should wait. The next generation of macbooks will have even better support for playing 1080p HD-movies, heavy graphics applications for 10+ mpix images with muliple layers, full HD video editing and such. Everyday stuff for kids of today.

You could wait forever to buy a product because the next gen will be better.
Are we likely to see a change to Macbooks available to purchase in June 08 ?

I'm in the same situation. I need a new computer but have been trying to wait for the MacBook revision or this sale. Since it is such a great deal (even though I have a touch already), I will probably go pick up a BlackBook. I'm still somewhat on the fence because WWDC is next week and the slight possibility for a MacBook revision. What do you guys think I should do. Bite the bullet and get it tomorrow or wait until next week?
