Hi guys,

It's complicated, but I would like to buy an iPhone X, use it for about a week without a carrier, and then after about a week I'll be using my Verizon account. Sounds sorta funny, but it just has to be this way since the first week a family member will be using my current iPhone and needs the cellular access, and I'll be going without cellular for that first week. After that, I'll switch my Verizon account / number to the iPhone X and use it normally.

Can this be done? Can I get get past Setup on a new (unlocked) iPhone X without a carrier or phone number attached to it, essentially just using it as a WiFi only / iPod touch?

Let me know your thoughts! Thanks guys.

My understanding is that you still need a sim card to get pact the activation screen. You don't really need an active sim card, so if you have sim card that is laying around and still works, you can just insert that and should be fine. Once you get to the home screen just remove the sim card and use as normally.
