My 2.5 Quad is for sale on craigslist, and a prospective buyer has e-mailed me this:

"I might be interested in your PowerMac. I currently use a Mac Book Pro (2.8ghz, Intel Core 2 Duo, 4gb ram) for graphic editing (photoshop, indesign, dreamweaver, etc). Can you tell me if your machine will be quicker? Thanks!"

Will the Quad be a good desktop substitute for the kind of work he does? I want to give him an honest answer, not an "Of course! When can you come pick it up?" without knowing for sure.

I told him that the Quad is still very strong for that type of work, and was comparable to Macs sold even as late as 2-3 years ago in raw power.

Thanks all.

It will be slightly slower in processing power according to geekbench, however you can put 16GB of RAM in the Power Mac, which would definitely help out when editing large images.

Tell him, that he'll be also limited to Adobe CS4, it could make a difference compatibility-wise, especially for InDesign works.
