buying 3g in nyc?

Hi,
I wanted to try to pick up 2 blk 8gig 3g iphones on monday or tuesday next week, in new york city. I work there, near the brooklyn bridge area. but wanted to know has anyone tried buying from the city, do they always have stock all day? As most likely i won't be able to go til after work, i get off around 4:30ish, so guessing i'll be getting into line by 5 in one of the stores. anyone bought from the city that late, is there stock, any store better than the other?

go to the apple website, there is a section to let you know about availability...however it's not always accurate...or you can just call the store...best bet is going to the 5th ave store...they always have stock!
