My son and I drove 130 miles to get him a iphone, after waiting in line even though we knew he needed a deposit, he had forgot his credit card and was told he could not get it unless..... he had one.

He walk over to the ATT store and was no help at all, I pulled a AE gift card from my pocket for less the 5 bucks he had on it.... and it worked, even if it didnt have his name on it.....

After 2 hours he finally got his iPhone and i got the bill :(

So if you dont have a CC, buy one and use it :)

what's a AE card?

So what your saying is buy a Visa or MasterCard logo'd 'Gift Card' and they will accept it and continue the transaction.
Think this was mentioned in the past but i'm sure its so buried on page 15 by now ;)

Dealing in all cash 90% of time can be a hassle but its soooo worth it.

Apple said since Day 1 that if all you have is cash, they'll direct you to a designated person at the Apple Store, from whom you buy an Apple Store gift card for the value of the iPhone, then buy it from the Specialist using the card.

I am pretty sure this is because the Specialists are not equipped to handle cash with those little handheld devices. They just want them to scan, swipe & sign...

When I heard you say "AE" I thought American Eagle, hehehehe.

explain the sooo worth it part?

No traceability, Corporations can not profile you. eg Visa, MC, Amex, Discover can not sale me to someone looking for people who eat @ Carrabba's/Olive Garden or buy books at B&N related to 'living off the grid' home gardening or 'Counter view points to the current reigning president'
Also makes it harder to track were one is :p
Yeah the RFID chips in cash are bad enough...
Prob the 2 biggest guilty parties was Discover and is Amex.
I used to get a ton of 'targeted' mailings from them, still do on occasion from Amex.

yeah yeah i know loosen up the tin foil beanie

you know what ... that's my fault ... I saw cash, and thought currency versus

cash = currency + demand deposits

I presume an american express gift card.
Correct a gift card from American Express.

The manager nor any of the sales people had no clue, after the long ride I hate to have him leave empty handed.
