I am going to college. I was told to buy a computer with at least these specs.

Win: Intel or AMD 2.6 GHz processor or higher
Mac: Intel 2.4 GHz or higher
4 GB
256MB video memory
Win: 160GB or larger
Mac: 250GB or larger
Wireless
802.11b card
Wired Networking
100 Mbps Ethernet Card
Windows 7 or
Mac OS 10.7 or higher

I have up to $2000 dollars to spend to get the best computer possible. I'm just going to be doing school work on it and I really want to get one that is fast enough that it won't be rendered obsolete in the next four years.

I take it you're in the U.S.? If so you should get the base rMBP which is $1,999 with education discount. I know you stated that you want 2.4 GHz or higher but the clock speed gives no indication of the performance anymore. It really depends how many cores the processor has and how new the processor technology is. I bought the base rMBP myself for university and it is awesome. Furthermore, the base rMBP fits all of your other requirements (except for ethernet port, but you can buy a thunderbolt adapter for that).
