Buying a new iPhone to unlock

My friend is buying an iPhone and wants me to unlock it for him. I'm pretty sure most iPhones in stores still have firmware 1.01 on them. How do I update it to firmware 1.02 instead of 1.1.1 to be able to unlock it?

i have the same question too... will the current iphone come with the new 1.1.1 firmware?? can we downgrade to 1.0.2??

From what I've read, its not possible to "downgrade" from 1.1.1 to 1.0.2.

My friend brought me his new 4gb iPhone today. It has the 1.01 firmware. I searched and found out how to update it to 1.02 and not to 1.1.1. so I'm all set.
