Hi,

looking at upgrading my iPhone 7. Just wondering, now that 5G is out, is buying a phone that doesnt support 5G a waste of money? looking at buying a Xr rather than a 12, just a more economical purchase.

But with 5G now here, does that mean that 4G will be going away? or doesn't it work like that?

I dont want to buy something that isnt going to work in a year, but also trying not to spend more money than necessary to get a better phone.

I would doubt that 4G is going to go away any time soon if at all, 3G is still around even though 4G has been around a while now. You would need full 5G coverage without issues before 4G could go away and it would take years for that to happen.

4G won’t be going anywhere and is still a fast data connection. Depending on your location, of course.

Some countries network providers also charge more for 5G plans, and if your happy enough with what your currently living with then there’s nothing wrong with buying a 4G device in 2020.
