So thinking about picking up a TV.
Haven't had one in a while, the last one I had was a Q950TS 55" and the main reason for getting that one was that it had the "One connect box" and the lovely no-gap wallmount feature. Got it for a good price so went for that model over a Q95T who was for sale for the same price.

Aiming to get a 65" and have been looking at most brands, seems like noone has the unique features that I am still looking for (one connect box, slim wallmount) so I guess its Samsung again.

Have been looking at the following models.

  • The Frame 2024
  • S95C/D
  • QN95B (2022)
  • QN95C/D (they don't have the One Connect Box feature, so its a no)
  • QN900C/D (8K isn't really relevant, mode the OCB and Slim wallmount that's interesting.

I do love the frame but the constant talk about backlight bleed issues and bad viewing angles makes it sound less interesting of a buy, does anyone here have the 2022/2023 or 2024 version and have anything to say about it?

The QN95B is interesting but still quite pricey and quite old, still have most of the features I want.

S95C/D, gorgeous but pricey, samt goes for QN900

So does anyone of you readers here have any input on the models I am looking at or have any other suggestions.
The one connect box feature is one of the features really appreciate and don't think any other manufacturers offer a similar solution.

Smart functions are not relevant at all, it won't be connected to the internet.

Samsung has quality control issues in my experience.

Every time I give them a chance, I end up regretting it.
Well, I kinda have to somewhat agree on that one. I haven't regretted every buy but some for sure. The 34" G7 odessey was one and an AC another bad choice but the q950 was a good buy and also the earlier 42" inch i had.

Not sure I understand the "one connect box". Does it connect wirelessly the TV? My "one connect box" is the Denon receiver. Only 1 HDMI cable hidden in the wall from there to my TV .

LG G3 OLED is a thin screen, wall mount not unlike the frame. Quite expensive though.

Why is the connect box is a high priority? As discussed many times elsewhere the best long term solution is to get the best quality TV along with an Apple TV. The TV is just a display device.

How concerned are you about video quality? If it matters you're talking about an OLED or equivalent.

Do you watch a lot of movies? If so Samsung doesn't support Dolby Vision.

With Christmas coming New models and Prices will be out soon. I had a Samsung Smart TV and Hated the Android OS as I have a lot of Apple devices. Replaced it with a Vizio smart TV and it is Great. Connects and works with my Apple devices with no problems. It's now 5 yr. old and about due for an upgrade. To what, I don't know as it is a 4K and that is about all that is transmitted over cable and satellite.
Also just another thought, I have seen people with Large TV's and sound systems in small rooms. A lot of $$$ for little "experience" gain if any. Keep in mind, room size, lighting, seating / viewing angles, and acoustics. Sometimes bigger isn't always better.

The One Connect Box is a Samsung feature some of the high end models have, its essentially a box that houses all the connections and tiny fibercable and copper cable runs from that to the TV. Makes it possible for a very clean installation and to be able to place all the gadgets such as PS5, apple TV etc a bit away from the TV.

The G3 looks pretty nice, will deffo have a look at that. Still the issue with the cable mess but will could be an alternative.

Yea, the idea is to get a decent/good TV. The S95 seem to get fantastic reviews and the Frame is a bit old now these days with the issues I mentioned. The one connect box is a nice samsung feature, see link above

I don't think Samsung are using Android on their TV's, they are using Tizen, that's one of the reasons I am going for Samsung, no slow UI and no Android. It won't ever be connected the internet but still, the Android TV's I've tried has had a slow UI.
Not saying Tizen is the best, its like a Swiss cheese in terms security (or at least was), but it seems fast enough.

I have got an LG C2 and it’s the best TV I’ve ever used by far (and it’s not even close). With the new WebOS update program LG is the way to go imo.

You maybe right about Android OS as it was 5-6 years ago. I do remember that the TV would not load or run any Apple Apps.

I’m planning on getting the LG G4 around Black Friday because I love OLED and it’s $1k cheaper than the Sony A95L. Those are the top OLEDs and I can’t justify the Sony price. I also get a bit of a partner discount through work.

For cables, if you are handy, you can run the wires to the TV in the wall by making a cable pass-through between the studs behind the entertainment center and behind the TV. I have the one connect box with my 8-year-old Samsung and I still have a cable mess, it’s just somewhere else. If you want to run the cables down from the TV to the entertainment center, you can use cable ties to make a clean bundle. Same look as the one connect cable.

Bought a Samsung 55inch 95D. The display has been treated so it does not reflect, this works awfully well in a room with other lights or strong sunlight. This feature is definitely a huge plus over any of the other brands mentioned. Next to that the image quality is really mindblowing also from other angles that directly in front of the TV.

The one box is nice only one cable visible, but was ‘t a dealbreaker for me.

We're a very biased crowd here who often faults all Apple competitors every chance we get. I'm not sure you can get much objectivity from Apple fans on non-Apple products.

My suggestion is read objective reviews that are only web searches away to narrow in on 3 favorites... then go see the 3 favorites in person at a Best Buy or similar. Take samples of your own mix of video and look at your own video on the screens. Spend some time looking for any issues you've "heard about." Ultimately, this is a highly subjective question and only your eyes can pass judgement for you.

Else, this is just going to be a thread full of which TV people chose for themselves and/or brand slams that are Apple competitors in some way.

Yea, after reading some reviews and seeing comparisons, both on the 95c and 95d and a few other OLED its clear that this model is something else, very impressive.
its not cheap tho but at the same time, I till prob have it for quite some time.

I still struggle a bit of getting an OLED tho, the TV will be on quite a good bit. So having a lookout for a decent deal on a QN900 or QN95B (QLED) as well.

But the 95D really seem to be loved by the reviewers. The announcement from Samsung that they will continue to support TV's with updates for at least 7 years are positive news. I prob won't be using it connected anyway but still, nice to get updates.

I kinda look at it from another perspective, since Apple to make TV's people might be a bit more objective on non-apple products. Don't mind brandslamming in small dozes if people can motivate it with facts and also keep an open mind that "**** happens" and just cuz they had a faulty device is doesn't have to Apply to everyone.

And have as you said looked at a few models and will dig into them a bit more. Its hard to judge when looking in stores. OLED always look better than QLED but both techniques has their pros and cons.

I have to say that Rthings is a great source when looking at reviews, flippin brilliant site/bunch of people.

Naaaah. Collective contempt just bleeds over if brands have ANYTHING competing with Apple. You can hope for objective opinion from Apple fans to praise Apple competitor brand devices if you like, but I very much believe the biases work against your goal.

And have as you said looked at a few models and will dig into them a bit more. Its hard to judge when looking in stores. OLED always look better than QLED but both techniques has their pros and cons.

Neither changes with the opinions of strangers. If you got a 1000 replies all praising QLED and putting down OLED, does that make your eyes see QLED > OLED when- to your own eyes- OLED looks better? That is also not likely to change in your home. It appears that if you want the best-looking TV that to your own eyes is "always OLED," you probably should buy an OLED TV.

I faced the same decision just a couple of years ago and chose QLED myself. But don't let that bias you. Your own eyes are the only eyes that pass judgment for you. I paid way up for the top rated QLED set at the time to get something as close to OLED quality as possible... still granting that OLED offered a better picture.

As to pros & cons, there's plenty for either technology. Opinions of strangers shouldn't alter such lists in significant ways.

I have to say that Rthings is a great source when looking at reviews, flippin brilliant site/bunch of people.

Yes, and there are still independent entities that have staff that review A/V equipment... particularly those that still publish magazines. These are generally unbiased reviews... especially when you can find several reviews by different sources like that all seemingly in agreement about features & benefits important to you.

This is a BIG decision, bigger- IMO- than iPhones & Macs because you'll probably use this one for 10+ years instead of replacing it sooner to much sooner than that. Invest the time to chase down objective reviews and choose wisely. I hope you get a good one.

OP, I was in your boat earlier this year. Really wanted to splurge on the S95 because of the oneconnect box (my KS8000 had it. I loved that I didn't have to work my hand behind the wall-mounted TV whenever I wanted to mess with HDMI cables). At the end of the day though, the Frame wasn't high enough quality for me AND I couldn't justify the price difference for the S95, so I went not for the S90, but the S89 (a Best Buy exclusive). Honestly felt like I didn't shell out a whole lot for a really stinking great TV.

I suppose it depends on how you define a "clean installation". I have 4 different sources connected to my TV switched through my receiver along with power conditioners. It is a rats nest behind the cabinet due to all of the power, HDMI, and ethernet cables. You might consider using an inexpensive receiver as your "connect box". Advantage is that you can add speakers when you want. Just the HDMI, power, and eArc (if needed) cables go to the TV. Just like the Apple TV if there is a new audio or video codec you just replace the receiver, not the whole TV. I trust receiver manufacturers audio and hardware decoding hardware more than Samsungs'.
