My cousin wants to get a 13" rMBP. She's in the U.K. and I'm in Canada.

What with the exchange rate and everything, it works out a good bit cheaper here.

The problem with that is the Apple Care situation and whether they would give her a hard time in the U.K. with Canadian Apple Care. So that's a no go.

However, I've found out that you can buy Apple Care as a separate product

So would buying the MBP in Canada and the Apple Care in London fly?

Would the serial number of the MBP give the game away and make it impossible to register it for U.K. Apple Care?

Your thoughts please.

If I recall correctly, the Applecare TOS states that Apple has no obligation to provide service for devices that were purchased in other countries.

However, with my USA purchased devices + USA purchased Applecare, Apple stores seemed happy to service them in the UK on several occasions. I think it must be at the discretion of whoever you talk to at the store, but so far I haven't had any problems.

So, you might be alright to just go with Canadian Applecare.

Since you have a year to purchase the Applecare, you could simply try purchasing it in London. And if that doesn't work, purchase Applecare in Canada within that year.
