Interested in buying an iPhone from T-Mobile but had a few questions first..

  • Is it possible to buy an unlocked iPhone from T-Mobile?
  • If not, is it possible to buy an iPhone at full price from T-Mobile and then have them unlock it?
  • If I buy an iPhone from T-Mobile, will it have any T-Mobile branding anywhere on the phone itself or the box?

Thanks!

I believe all T-Mobile iPhones are unlocked. There are no company brandings on any of the iPhones.

Buying a Unlocked iPhone from T-Mobile?

To rebuttal what the person above said, not all T-Mobile iphones are unlocked. They are contract-free but are still locked to the carrier.

-Yes, you can buy an factory unlocked T-Mobile iPhone at the retail store/online/Apple store.

-Last time I checked, you qualify for an unlock after at least 40 days of service.

-Iphones do not have carrier logos, anywhere. That's includes the device and retail box.

Buy it from the Apple Store or from Verizon if you want it unlocked.

From AT&T or T-Mobile you need to contact them to get it unlocked and that's difficult if you're not already a customer.

You don't want a Sprint iPhone.

No. T-Mobile does not sell unlocked iPhones. It will be locked to T-Mobile.
If you buy it full price you would still have to use it for 40 days before they will unlock it for you.
There is no branding on the iPhone from any carrier regardless where you get it from.

Bottom line: if you want an unlocked iPhone then go to the Apple Store and buy one. If you want one to use on T-Mobile, then go buy it from the T-Mobile store.

A T-Mobile iPhone purchased directly from Apple will be unlocked. A T-Mobile iPhone purchased from T-Mobile will be locked.

The are only unlocked if Paid in Full. If you're on the payment plan they are locked. You would need to finish up your phone payments to get the phone unlocked as well. I just did mine and hopped back over to At&t a few weeks ago.
