I am considering buying Final Cut Express 4 but I have a few concerns. I don't want to buy this product then have it updated right after I do. So when is this product to for an update? Also, should I get the academic version or the regular one...cause I heard that you cant update on an academic version...thanks for your help!

Apple has dropped the price to $200 and the upgrade last time was under $100 so there is little risk. Even if they upgraded early next year in 2009 you'd get months of usage before you'd get hit with a $100 upgrade.

thanks for your thoughts on this.
Does anyone else have any thoughts about this question?

1. Nobody here knows if it will be upgraded.

2. If you are worried about an upgrade, do not get the academic version as it cannot be upgraded.

3. If you are worried about an upgrade, get the regular version.

Assuming you are eligible, the cheapest way to go is probably with the academic version as it goes for $99, and if want the new version, it will cost you another $99. The regular version is $199. Add in the $99 upgrade fee and you see what I mean.
