Buying Advice New MacBook (pro or air)

Hi,
need some buying advise, after I have read maybe to much articles and confused.
At the moment I have an MBP mid 2010 (2.4 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB DDR3, SSD) and it’s time to Upgrade.
Following task I want to carry out:
- general like office and internet
- Photo editing (with Affinity Photo) + light video editing (maybe more in the future)
- Ebook and Music (huge amount, all on NAS)

In addition, want to connect it to an Apple 27 Cinema Display (via Adapter, works already with an MBP 2019 - only for testing).
As I have an NAS in place, storage with 256GB is enough on the new one.

I‘m interested into the new MBP 13“ with the basic configuration (1,4 GHz Quad‑Core Intel Core i5).
Is this the right one? Should I double the RAM to 16 GB ? Or should I go with the MBA ?

Hope to get good advices !!!! Thanks.
T.

Either MBA and MBP will be a huge upgrade from a 2010 MBP.

If you want to keep it ten years, base MBP with 16GB RAM is a good idea. But if you are more price-sensitive, even the base model MBA will be OK for the time being.

The base model MBA is 999, the base model MBP with 16GB is 1399. Is it worth the 40% price increase? Or should you spend less now, but upgrade to a new model sooner? For two MBPs you can almost buy three MBAs. So your decision is really: should I buy a cheap MBA regularly or an expensive MBP once in a while? Economically speaking, I think you could go for either.

Personally, I would choose the base MBP with 16GB RAM; I wouldn't be too cheap on your main workhorse. But rationally, a cheap MBA (or a second-hand MBA/MBP) might be a slightly better deal.

Agree with NewUsername,
MBP is a good choice, for a long term and performance, i will go with 15 or 16.

16 vs 13 is totally different performance, but if you're compare with air, sure for 13.
