I'm going to get an apple display (maybe 17", more likely 20") to go with my 12" PB. I don't know whether to get it now, or to just keep waiting though.

What is likely to be different about the new displays, besides being aluminum? Do you expect higher res, faster refresh, brighter, crisper, or what?

I really want the display now, but the current displays are so old that I feel new ones have to be coming. Of course, that's the sort of logic that can keep you waiting a year...

I'm in the exact situation, waiting for my 12" to be delivered. I bought a 17" when I ordered the computer.

I like my 20" Cinema but that's 'cause I bought it a year ago and didn't have to worry about a new model coming out right after I buy it. If really want a bigger screen but can't wait for the new Cinemas, I'd say get a Samsung 17" wide screen to play w/ for now then sell it when the new Cinemas come out.

I would wait. You can expect a price drop and better LCD techology (better response rate, color etc.). I'm waiting for the 23" to go with my new 15" PB :D

I wish the 23 inch display was a grand and the refresh rate was good enough for games and it matched the G5 case. Those displays don't get updated to frequently. It was huge $1,500 price drop last time and that was ages ago.

I am hoping for a 17'' wide aspect display. the 20'' is what I really crave, but I simply can't afford the $1200 price tag. I can buy an iMac for that price. Hopefully some price cuts will bring one to me. As for the design, I rather like the look. I would take it over some brushed aluminum, but thats just my personal preference

If you want to go with something other than Apple, the Hitachi 16ms 17"s displays are great, along with the Samsung 172T and the 192T are also great. Just look for something with a descent resolution, at least 1280x1024, and a good response time 25ms or less. Contrast ratio is also important, something like a 400:1 at least, preferably 500:1. If you want a really large display, check out the Dell 2001FP, 20.1", 16ms response time, 1600x1200 native resolution for 749.99 when on sale. I have my 15.2" PB hooked up to my Samsung 181T and couldn't be happier!
