buying an ATT iphone off ebay

Can somebody tell me that if I buy an ATT Iphone off of ebay, can it successfully unlocked to be used on any carrier.

I am from Canada, and while we have carriers that support the Iphone, there are better deals to be had on ebay

Depends on the firmware and baseband, but really, it would be easiest/best to get a Canada one since they are factory unlocked. You won't have to worry about losing the unlock after you update the software

Ask the seller what firmware and baseband is on the iPhone in question and you'll be able to find out if it can be jailbroken/unlocked or not. If the baseband is higher than 1.59 then you won't be able to unlock since there is no unlock available for the higher basebands. Since you're in Canada, as the previous poster mentioned, it's probably best you get one there since you guys have the option of factory unlock.
