Is the SIM unlocked version the same as the Verizon in that both have the CDMA radio? My wife uses Sprint right now but we want a "world" phone just in case she switches carriers.

iPhone 11 Buying an iPhone 11 for my wife today, get SIM unlocked or Verizon?

There is only one USA iPhone 11 model. It’s radio supports both CDMA and GSM.
The X had two different models. The Xs is when they started releasing just one all around.
As stated above an unlocked (SIM free) iPhone 11 can be used. Keep in mind that Sprint will become a part of T-Mobile this year, so it won't matter.
Well, if unlocked you can use them around the world. But there are different models for different markets. It looks like 3 models this year for the 11. The US model, which superficially looks like the Chinese model (except the Chinese one supports 2 physical SIMS). And the world model (which doesn't support CDMA or B14 (ATT) or B71 (T-Mobile).
They used to be - until Verizon changed their policy a year or so ago. They've been locking them for the first 60 days I believe.
