I'm looking to upgrade my mom's iPhone 6S (32GB).

I want to get the most recent iPhone I can within my budget which will be as "futureproof" as possible and supported by Apple for as long as possible. She wants a FaceID phone rather than TouchID so the SE is excluded.

My (already stretched) budget really only gives me two options:

- iPhone 11 128GB
- iPhone 12 64GB

I've excluded the XR for being too old, and I've excluded the 12 mini for the poor battery.

I'm leaning towards the 12, but concerned that 64GB won't be enough for say, 5 years time (if it lasts that long).

Her usage is fairly light - maybe 10-15 photos/1-2 min videos stored on the phone. No music stored on the device. She typically uses WhatsApp, Safari (for browsing), a banking app, a couple of games and a couple of other small apps. Her 32GB 6S seems to have been suitable for this.

But I'm thinking going forward - future large file size iOS updates from Apple, operating system file size, potentially larger file size apps etc.

Will 64GB be enough for her going forward for the next few years, or should I really be looking at the 11/128GB?

Thanks

I am still using my iphone X 64gb. Just looked at my storage:
2,771 songs (12GB)
149 videos
2741 photos (16GB)
53 apps
I am using 61gb of 64gb
Upgrading this year. as could do with more, but based on what you have described she should be fine.
Hope that helps.

Yep definitely time for you to upgrade!

I just looked at the storage on her phone...

She's using 24GB of 32GB on her 6S. Biggest user of storage is her Audible app with 7GB of audiobooks. Next biggest is the operating system and cached data.

I agree, I think she'll be alright - I just hope Apple don't start rolling out huge 20GB updates in the next couple of years.

The fact Apple still sell the 12 new with 64GB storage suggests it should be good for a few years in terms of them not doing anything silly with update/OS sizes.

Thanks
