Buying an iPhone 3G off the AT&T sight.

Well, I'm considering giving in and resigning a two-year contract.

However what I want to know is the process of how to buy one off the site?

Has anyone done this?

I was hoping that I could buy the phone online, and sign the two year contract, then unlock it when I get home.

Or do you have to apply for the plan as well, so my card will already be hit at the end of the month with a plan?

I am also not eligible for an upgrade, so I would have to pay $400 is there anyway around this?

You will have to pay the increased price if your contract has not run out (not sure the exact amount$). You will give AT&T your billing information when you purchase online effectively signing a new contract for two years. You will not be able to unlock it and avoid the monthly bill. Sorry.
